Here’s a 2 minutes and 22 seconds Why there’s a Need to Correct an Overbite? video. See full transcript below.
Overbites may vary to some people. For some, their top teeth didn’t hit their bottom teeth while others may be unable to see their lower front teeth. Overbites occur once there are some abnormalities in the development of the jaw. For instance, when the jaw grows too much, or your top front teeth become protruding as they are positioned to angle out. Often, it could be due to the lower jaw that may have not developed enough. It is crucial to adjust the overbite at the earliest opportunity because it can trigger several dental problems.
Overbite Correction may depend heavily on the kind of overbite you have. For dental overbite, the best and most applied treatment is through orthodontic treatment. For those who have overbite due to overcrowding of the teeth, the dentist may require tooth extraction followed by dental braces. Moreover, jaw surgery is suggested if the patient suffers from a skeletal overbite. It can better satisfy the overbite correction compared to extraction and braces when the case is skeletal overbite. Failure to treat severe cases of overbite by adulthood may cause the teeth to shift and develop periodontal disease.
People who have overbite may not even notice it. Overbites are very common among people, particularly mild cases. However, severe overbite is more unusual for someone who has it.
