Do You Know What is Burning Mouth Syndrome?

Burning mouth syndrome or BMS is also referred to as glossodynia and neuropathic pain. This condition can be real painful. There are also numerous treatment options for burning mouth disease. But the treatment would always depend on the real cause of the condition. The burning mouth syndrome most often attacks the top of your tongue, the lower lip, roof of the mouth and sometimes areas all over the mouth.

A patient who has BMS may feel they have burnt the mouth with hot food. The mouth would also have a sour, bitter or metallic taste. It may also feel dry, and the food seems tasteless. BMS can last for months or years. A patient may suffer from constant pain and discomfort every day. In some cases, the pain can increase throughout the day. But for other people, the pain may subside when they eat or drink.

BMS treatment usually differs from person to person. Given that BMS is difficult to diagnose, several factors go into treatment. Medical care and prescription medications may be recommended as well as therapies or counseling.
